Thanks. Tony Asher one of Brian Wilson's lyricists from Pet Sounds wrote this one too.
Who was the artist you recall this one from; I have not heard any other version but this.

I think I have this one in my collection by another group, too. If I come across it, I'll let you know.

The American Breed did it a few months later but the production quality (no strings, horns) was stripped and went nowhere. I would still be intrested to hear it though.

Yes, I'm almost certain now that you mention it that the version with which I am familiar is by the American Breed. It's ironic that horns are stripped from that version because the American Breed records usually did have horns (which, incidentally, along with strings, I do not like in rock band music - among my least favorite Beatles records are "Yesterday" and "Eleanor Rigby", although I sort of do like "Got to Get You Into My Life").

Really? I guess The Buckinghams, Chicago, ELO, Chase, The Ides of March, etc. can't count on you for memberships in their fan clubs. (LOL)I think both have their places (imagine Led Zepplin w/o the strings in Cashmere) in music but not everything.

Actually, I'm not too harsh on rocking songs that have incidental strings and horns. I have a lot of favorites by the Buckinghams and ELO. I was surprised to learn in the 2000s that ELO actually had classical string players as band members, not just session players. Except for maybe a "fiddler" like Papa John Creech, a member of Hot Tuna, rock groups didn't usually have classical string instruments. My favorite Ides of March song was their earlier, non-brass hit, "You Wouldn't Listen".
